I first met Phillipa when I was on Brides magazine 30 years ago, when it came time to choose someone to design my wedding dress 22 years ago I immediately got in touch. Both incredibly lovely and talented in equal measure. Phillipa is known globally for creating timeless and feminine bespoke dresses, combining traditional couture techniques with her unparalleled attention to detail. Such a joy to chat to Philippa about her journey, I hope it inspires you too.
What do you love most about running your own business?
Working very closely with my incredible artisan team creating beautiful pieces, I particularly adore working with my embellishment department creating bespoke fine floral embroideries. I also absolutely love working one on one with clients designing just the right dress for them personally. After 35 years I still get that tingle moment when I finish designing just the right dress for each client.
What is your company mission statement?
A few words pop up ….. ‘ we never turn away a frock-less bride’ ‘ we create with genuine passion, integrity and artisan expertise'.
What sets you and your business apart from competitors?
The difference, the detail, the quality, the time we give, the fit, the genuine passion, timeless design.
What do you think it takes to build a successful business and brand?
Much hard work , long hours, detail, passion and love for what you do and key team players.
How would you describe your leadership style?
Warm, friendly, honest, fun, driven and hardworking.
Favourite part about your job?
Designing on the bride, working with clients. Working with embellishment, designing and creating.
What advice would you offer budding entrepreneurs?
It is going to be hard work, many many hours. Its 24/7. Love it and revel in it and find a really good hardworking team to help you.

Obsessive, workaholic, artistic.
What is your life motto?
Live for the day like no tomorrow.
Who inspires you and why?
Sarah Blakely is a very refreshing entrepreneur, she is cool and fun.
What have you learnt over the last two years?
Be ready for anything … be flexible with moving goalposts, take time for you, think carefully outside the box and go with the flow and breathe and most importantly … exercise and space.
What is your favourite possession and why?
My dog, he gives me so much love and devotion.
What is your greatest personal achievement?
My two daughters.
What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?
Have a cup of tea.
How do you unwind?
Daily ritual - bath with epsom salts.
What makes you smile?
My children, my dog and flowers ….
Where is your favourite place to travel to?
St Jean Cap Ferrat …. I have been going for years.
What are your Top Tips for entertaining?
Relax, prep as much as possible beforehand, feel the table, enjoy dressing her and make sure guests can see each other across the table.
